Coin Ultra tongue drum by Orbis is a unique musical instrument handmade in Ukraine. What makes this tongue drum exceptional is the choice of materials. Tongue drums made of brass and aluminum are our trademark, and we are the only company in the world crafting such instruments. While these materials are expensive, they are worth it!
Brass produces a deep, low sound without any metallic aftertaste, featuring rich overtones and excellent sustain. It is a perfect choice for meditations, sound healing, and yoga practices. On the other hand, aluminum is a lightweight and durable metal with a bright sound. Its lightness balances the weight of brass and adds volume to the instrument (yes, aluminum is quite loud). The combination of these two materials gives the Coin Ultra model a unique sound.
But materials are not the only special features of our instrument. The Coin is a double-sided instrument, meaning it has two distinct tunings – two instruments in one! Each side produces a different sound – the deep, calming sound of the aluminum side and the vibrant, lively sound of the brass side!
And there's more – Coin Ultra is a shining example of "1 + 1 = more than two." When playing on one side, you can hear the sound of the other side. The tongues on the opposite side resonate and enrich the sound even further. Holding the instrument, you can feel strong vibrations, which is the main characteristic of this model. The sound of the instrument is much richer than that of single-sided instruments, yet it remains clear. The brass side has double tongues (plus a central triple bass tongue), while the aluminum side has single tongues. Even when playing on the aluminum side, you can hear the overtone sound typical of complex tongue constructions.
Our instrument is handcrafted in Ukraine with 10 years of experience in tongue drum production, where quality is as important to us as innovation. It is made from premium materials, features two unique designs (hand engravings), and comes with quality accessories – a carrying bag, mallets, and natural jute rope braiding.
